Sejong University invites applications for Non tenure-track Research Assistant Professors for the following research areas.

Founded in 1940, Sejong University ranks among the top private universities in Korea. Our student body comprises 14,000 undergraduate and graduate students. We offer a wide range of programs and courses through our nine colleges. In addition, Sejong University has a strong research focus, and we rank highly in science and engineering journal publications.

● Qualification

1) A doctoral degree in the application field

2) Ability to deliver lectures in English

● Application Submission Period

Sep 13th, 2016 - Sep 30th, 2016. 5 p.m (Korean Standard Time)

● Employment Start Date

Spring semester of 2017 (beginning March 1st, 2017 for a renewable contract term of two years)

● Salary and Incentive

1) 37,000,000 KRW

2) Incentive will be provided for paper publications and research grants award.

● Responsibilities

A. Teaching one course per semester in English

B. Publishing papers for the contract period (2 years) to renew the contract

※ The conditions for re-appointment

For re-appointment, one of the two conditions must be met as below.

(Ⅰ. Paper and Ⅲ. Online Lecture Evaluation or Ⅱ. Research funds and Ⅲ. Online Lecture Evaluation)

Ⅰ. Paper

▶ Journal Criteria

The rank of the SCI-grade( SSCI, A&HCI, SCI and SCIE) journals must be within the top 50% based on impact factor.

Also, at least 50% of the number of papers must be published as a lead author (A or B of the Author Criteria).

     B. Corresponding author

     C. Co-author : acceptable only if first author and corresponding author are not belong to the Sejong University.

Ⅱ. Research funds

As a large-scale research project director, the amount of research funds should be more than KRW 300 million per year in Natural Science and Engineering areas (or KRW 150 million per year in Social Science, Arts and History areas).

Ⅲ. Online Lecture Evaluation

The re-appointment will not be made if half or more of the lecture evaluations performed for regular semesters during the contract period results in a grade of “D”.

● Candidate Review Process

Successful candidates will be contacted at each stage of the review process via e-mail. Applications submitted without all the required documents shall be rejected. The candidate may submit documents in either English or Korean.

[STEP 1] Review of Application Documents

Candidates may apply to only one field.

Candidates complete the Internet application, research publications list, research plan, and self-introduction form.

[STEP 2] In-depth Evaluation

The review board requires a copy of the candidate’s original diploma and one sealed transcript for each academic degree awarded, including but not limited to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees.

In addition, the review board requires proof of current employment, which must correspond to the candidate’s application form, as well as the candidate’s most recent research thesis and materials, covering five years since September 2011.

[STEP 3] Candidate Presentation and Departmental Evaluation

The review board evaluates the candidate’s lecturing capabilities and potential for future research.

[STEP 4] Candidate Interview

[STEP 5] Selection of Successful Candidates

The review board selects candidates based on scores received in steps 1-4. Scoring criteria and procedures may vary according to department.

● Important Notes

Only those who passed STEP 2(In-depth evaluation) are required to have two letters of recommendation submitted to the department chair via e-mail.

Any of the submitted materials’ inauthenticity will result in the immediate disqualification of the applicant.

Certificates from non-English-speaking institutions must be submitted with English/Korean translations of the original text. Translated papers should include names and signatures of the translators.

Positions will not be filled if there are no successful candidates.
